Trans/Non Binary Community Hang

Hello friends!

In the wake of the most recent news from the US, I think that one of the most important things we as trans and non-binary folks can do, is continue to love ourselves and one another.
Let’s get together for an afternoon of meeting new friends, sharing, listening, collective healing (?), maybe some musical jams, arts and crafts, and good food.

Please SHARE THIS EVENT!!! With any trans or non-binary folks you think would like to attend!

My name is T., or Teddy, I’m a 24 year old trans guy living in Halifax, just to give you an idea of who this “I” is that you’ll be reading about through the description. 🙂

RadStorm has graciously agreed to provide their new space to hold this event. This whole thing is coming together in real time – my hope is to get some food donated from a couple local restaurants so we can chow down together.

1 – 2 ish: Arrive, mix and mingle, eat some snax, consensually hug your friends if you wanna

2pm: If folks are interested, we can do a sharing circle. Introduce ourselves, give everyone an opportunity to speak and be actively listened to by the group, if they would like to. Anyone who does not wish to speak can of course pass 🙂 Also, if folks aren’t feeling this, we don’t have to do it!

3pm (whenever circle wraps up if we decide to do it): More hangs! I’ll bring my guitar, if other folks want to bring instruments maybe we could jam, sing songs together. I’ll also bring some colouring books and if other folks want to bring arts and crafts stuff either for yourself, or to share, please feel free!

Hopefully this gathering will allow anyone who needs space to reflect on their feelings, or send love to our family in the US, a warm, welcoming, loving space to do that.
Though we may be discussing some difficult topics and emotions, I hope we can all provide each other with a safe and confidential place to do this.
I also hope we can create an environment with room for laughter, joy, creativity and new connections that reflect how absolutely beautiful and rich this community is, no matter what.

This gathering is intended as an all ages, closed community gathering for self-identified trans and non-binary folks.
So much love and thanks to our allies for being so present, especially in the last couple days. Thank you for checking in, thank you for your outrage on our behalf, thank you for seeing us and loving us. I hope you understand that a community coming together in a closed way is a crucial part of supporting each other. Thank you for your respect.

That being said – If you are a trans or non-binary person who would feel more comfortable attending with a friend, and that friend is not trans, you are very welcome to bring them for support. I ask that anyone who is not trans, and is attending in a supportive role to a trans person just be mindful of the space you are in and the space you take up 🙂
If you are a trans or non-binary person who is the parent or guardian of a child who is not trans, please feel welcome to bring them.
If you are the parent of a trans child who would like to attend and you are not trans, please feel welcome to bring them and join us.

Okay. That’s all for now. I will post updates on accessibility of the space as I get more specific details, as well as updates on any food. I will do my best to provide gluten free and vegan options.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Any suggestions are welcome, I would love this gathering to be as community driven as possible.
