Sharing Our Journeys: Being Black & Gay in Atlantic Canada

This event is being held at the Central Halifax Library for African Heritage Month.

The Youth Project is attending this event in support of African Heritage Month and Black History Month. We will be meeting at the library at 1:45pm Saturday February 16th, beside the main information desk by the main entrance to the library. Our staff member, Magda, will be wearing a black Youth Project Hoodie.

Event Description:

Our panel of community members share their powerful and personal experiences of living in both the Black and Gay communities but not necessarily “belonging” in either. The challenges they have faced and overcome will be both moving and inspiring.

Panel Moderator:

  • Deva Station is a rule-breaking femme fatale who is fearless, fabulous and always glamourous! Seven feet tall in hair and heels, and with a “through the roof” attitude, Deva has appeared regularly on television, movies and on her YouTube channel StationDRG.

Panelists:

  • Chris Cochrane is a POC transgender activist who is better known by her drag persona Elle Noir. An esthetician and makeup artist by trade, she has been at the forefront of many issues impacting both the LGBTQIIA2 and POC communities and focusses her work on bringing communities together.
