Supported by the Nova Scotia Scholastic Chess Association and Cape and Cowl Comics and Collectibles, The Youth Project presents Queer’s Gambit: An introduction to chess!
This workshop is hosted by Skye (she/her), YP Programming Coordinator and amateur competitive chess player. In this workshop she will cover the history of chess, how the pieces move, principles for good decision making, and how to deliver checkmate! No prior experience is needed to participate.
Why should you learn chess? What are the benefits?
Aside from being a fun game on its own, chess also has much to teach us! In playing and improving you gain increased confidence, stronger decision making skills, the ability to accept and learn from mistakes/losses, and an eye for spotting creative solutions to complex problems! Chess is like going to the gym, for your brain!
Workshop runs Saturday, February 11th from 1-3pm at Cape & Cowl Comics (622 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville). This workshop is open to any youth ages 12-25, with a prioritization for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Masks are required at all Youth Project programs.
