As was announced on March 6th, Kate Shewan’s last day as Executive Director of the Youth Project was this past Friday. We would like to thank Kate for all the hard work, dedication, integrity and leadership she brought to the Youth Project over the past four years. We understand that this change may bring uncertainty to the community, however the Board of Directors and the Youth Board are committed to completing a robust recruitment process in order to find the best possible candidate.
In order to accomplish this, we have appointed an Interim Executive Director, Heather Chamberlin, to maintain the operations of the Youth Project until we are able to find a suitable replacement for Kate. Heather will work for the Youth Project on a full time basis for the next three months to allow time for a thorough recruitment process for our next ED. She will also remain at The Youth Project for three months, following the hiring of a new ED, on a part time basis to aid our next Executive Director in the transition process.
Heather has been involved in the 2SLGBTQ+ community in the Halifax area for a number of years, having co-managed Venus Envy for seven years. Furthermore, Heather was employed at The Youth Project on a part time basis in the fall to help in our period of transition, and has received training directly from our previous Executive Director. As a result of this, we feel as though Heather is the best possible fit for our Interim Executive Director role.
The Youth Project is in the process of retaining a recruitment firm to assist in the process of recruiting the organization’s next Executive Director. A job posting will soon be available with an updated job description to best match the current needs of the community and the organization as a whole.
Both the Board of Directors and the Youth Board would like to thank the community for their ongoing support during this period of change. Future updates will be available on our website at https://youthproject.wpengine.com/news/
