In this educational and creative program presented in partnership by The Youth Project and the Anchor Archive Zine Library, participants will be introduced and oriented to the Anchor Archive’s amazing historical zine collection of over 7,000 zines produced locally and across the globe. Megan of the Anchor Archive and Brody of The Youth Project will facilitate an educational session on the history of zines and their significance in queer, trans, and 2SLGBTQIA+ politics, cultures, and histories. We’ll discuss and read zines about trans healthcare, intersex activism, prison abolition, feminism, and more. We’ll think about zines as catalysts for conversation and action, and as important spaces aside from mainstream print publishing and digital publishing on social media. We’ll collaboratively create a zine about issues important to us and use DIY print as a way to facilitate community connection and collective action.
To register or ask questions about the program, email brody@youthproject.ns.ca. This workshop will run on August 27th from 2pm-6pm, with a break period and light snacks.
The workshop is open to anyone identifying as 2SLGBTQIA+ and between the ages of 18-25.
