Pride 2019!

We’re excited to host youth events for Pride 2019! 

New to the YP this Pride? Don’t know how to get involved? 
That’s ok! Our events require no sign-up beforehand, just drop on by if something looks fun & interesting. YP staff, volunteers, and fabulous youth board members will be on hand to say hi. If you have questions feel free to drop us a line! or 429-5429.

Saturday, July 13th:

LGBTQ2S+ Swim Night!
6:30-8:00 / Centennial Pool

Wednesday, July 17th:

6:00-8:00 / 2281 Brunswick Street

Thursday, July 18th:

Swag-Making Party!
5:00-7:00 / Halifax Central Library – 2nd Floor

Join us for a crafty party and create your own pride swag! Signs, wearable stuff, buttons, jewellery and more! Create your own message about what Pride means to you! Open to youth 25 and under.

Youth Dance!
8:00-10:30 / Garrison Grounds

A dance for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies, ages 19 and under. A chance to kick off the Pride festival with a dance under the stars, and plenty of glitter! Free to attend, snacks and drinks provided. Brought to you by Halifax Pride and The Youth Project! An area will be set up nearby if parents/guardians would like to stay. A drug- and alcohol-free space.

Friday, July 19th:

Float-Building & Pride BBQ
3:00-5:00 / @ The Youth Project (2281 Brunswick)

All youth are welcome on the YP’s parade float – but first we have to put it together! All youth are welcome to grab a paintbrush and help us decorate the float and/or come by for a free BBQ! Open to youth 25 and under.

Saturday, July 20th:

If you are joining us on the YP float, meet at the YP (2281 Brunswick street) at noon. If you can’t make noon, head down to the marshalling area (bottom of Cornwallis street) to meet us before the 1:00pm start time. We’ll update with our parade entry number when we get it!

Monday, July 22nd:

Gender Creative Kids!
6:00-8:00  / @ The Youth Project (2281 Brunswick)
Calling all rainbow kids! This event is for gender-creative, gender nonconforming and transgender kids, under 13. Come join us for snacks, art, games, music and fun! This is a family friendly event, parents/guardians/siblings are welcome.

Non-binary dinner & discussion/hangout!

Wednesday, July 24th:

Being Young and Trans – Trans Youth Panel!
3:00-4:00 / BMO Room at Halifax Central Library
What is it like to be young and trans in Halifax in 2019? These brave youth come together to discuss their experiences as trans and gender non-conforming youth in our city. 

Thursday, July 25th:

 Youth Project Community Open House!
4:00-6:00 / 2281 Brunswick Street
Want to tour the Youth Project and meet our staff? The community is invited for snacks, conversation and to check out our space! The YP is not accessible and we apologize for this inconvenience and lack of accessibility.

 Parents Night!
6:00-8:00 / 2281 Brunswick Street
Are you a parent or guardian of a 2SLGBTQ+ youth and want to talk to other parents/guardians about their experiences? Join us for snacks and discussion! (Parent’s night is the fourth Thursday each month at The Youth Project).

 Hard knock life? Haven’t found the pride event for you? Join us for a film screening and live performance with Annie (aka Shayla Shenanigans) and a cast of fabulous drag performers for an interactive and super fun Annie drag-a-long.
