The Parks & Recreation Youth Section, the Municipal Clerks Office of the Municipality, and Community Partners (ANSAIO, DBDLI, ISANS, and iMatter) are developing a Youth Advisory Council (YAC). The YAC will be a team of 12 youth ages 15 to 24 from across the Halifax Regional Municipality who will provide input to the Regional Council on municipal policies, programs and services.

The Municipality has designated at least one YAC seat for a youth from each of the following marginalized communities: Persons with Disabilities, Mi’kmaq, African Nova Scotian, Francophone/Acadian, Newcomer and LGBTQ2S.

The planning committee is hosting a workshop on Wednesday July 18, 2018 at Halifax City Hall, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. We will be providing and collecting information that will aid in the development of the YAC to ensure that recruitment and promotional materials are inclusive and will speak to diverse populations. Refreshments will be provided and bus tickets available upon request.

Any youth who live within the Municipality and are between the ages of 15 -24 are encouraged to attend. Should you, or someone you know, be interested in attending please contact Jennifer Purdy at purdyj@halifax.ca or 902.789.3751 to confirm your registration. Space is limited.
